Summary: This role is for an Electrical & Instrument Designer within a well-established engineering consultancy in Manchester, focusing on complex, highly regulated projects. The position involves contributing to the full lifecycle of projects in regulated industrial environments, specifically in electrical and instrumentation design. Candidates should have experience in consultancy or design houses, particularly in sectors like Oil & Gas and Pharmaceuticals. The role is office-based and offers an outside IR35 contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned scopes of work in line with discipline-specific procedures and project requirements
  • Provide technical E&I design support across multiple projects
  • Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and emerging technologies
  • Produce and review electrical and instrumentation schematics
  • Produce and review instrument loop diagrams, hook-ups, cable block diagrams
  • Produce and review instrument and valve schedules
  • Produce and review cable schedules, I/O schedules, and termination drawings
  • Interpret P&IDs and engineering flow diagrams to support accurate design delivery
  • Develop and review instrument location drawings using instrument databases, EFDs, and plant layout drawings
  • Liaise closely with engineers and other disciplines to ensure design intent is fully and correctly implemented
  • Use AutoCAD / 2D design software (3D experience advantageous but not essential)

Key Skills:

  • Experience in electrical and instrumentation design
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 2D design software
  • Experience in regulated sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, or Pharmaceuticals
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and engineering flow diagrams
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

An excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering consultancy delivering complex, highly regulated projects across the UK.

Due to a strong project pipeline, this role will sit within a multidisciplinary design team, contributing to the full lifecycle of projects in regulated industrial environments. You will play a key role in the electrical and instrumentation design of process-led facilities, working closely with engineers and stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery.

This is an office-based role (Monday to Friday) in Manchester. Candidates will ideally have prior experience working within a consultancy or design house, supporting clients across regulated sectors such as Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, or environments operating under COMAH or ATEX regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned scopes of work in line with discipline-specific procedures and project requirements
  • Provide technical E&I design support across multiple projects
  • Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and emerging technologies
  • Produce and review:
    • Electrical and instrumentation schematics

  • Interpret P&IDs and engineering flow diagrams to support accurate design delivery
