About the Role

This is an exciting, full-time temporary position starting in September 2026. The successful candidate will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering a broad, engaging curriculum that spans Resistant Materials (timbers and plastics), Food Preparation & Nutrition/Hospitality, and Textiles. The teacher will guide students through conceptual design, material testing, safety protocols, and hands-on manufacturing. Whether leading a Key Stage 3 rotation project or preparing Key Stage 4 students for Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) portfolios and practical exams, the teacher will play a key role in building student confidence, practical capability, and creative expression.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for Design & Technology at KS3 and KS4.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

Skills Required

  • Strong subject knowledge across DT specialities, including Timbers/Resistant Materials, Food, and Textiles.
  • Robust classroom and behaviour management capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within school workshop and food environments.
  • Clear, engaging communication skills for delivering complex practical and theoretical concepts.
  • Adaptability to shift seamlessly between theoretical lessons and practical workshop management.
  • Effective time management to balance lesson preparation, project setup, and marking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging Design Technology lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Teach practical skills across Resistant Materials, Food Preparation & Nutrition, and Textiles.
  • Manage workshop and kitchen safety, ensuring all HSE, CLEAPSS, and risk-assessment guidelines are strictly maintained.
  • Prepare students for GCSE and vocational qualifications, including practical coursework (NEA) and written exams.
  • Assess, record, and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback that drives individual improvement.
  • Maintain and manage classroom tools, machinery, equipment, and material inventory safely and efficiently.
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs, including students with SEND and EAL.
  • Cultivate a positive, productive classroom environment anchored in the school's high expectations and core values.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues to update schemes of work and integrate modern CAD/CAM technologies.
  • Complete standard professional duties, including attending parents' evenings, departmental meetings, and duty rotas.
