Summary: The Domestic Abuse Help Line & Intake Practitioner role involves providing initial contact and support for individuals accessing the Wakefield District Domestic Abuse Service. The practitioner will triage referrals, assess risks, and work collaboratively with a multi-agency team to ensure the safety and support of domestic abuse victims. This position requires a strong understanding of domestic abuse dynamics and the ability to provide immediate assistance and referrals to appropriate services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all enquiries and referrals to the service.
  • Provide a helpline response, offering advice and information regarding domestic abuse.
  • Receive and process agency referrals and self-referrals into the service.
  • Triage referrals, prioritizing those at highest risk of harm.
  • Liaise with referring agencies to clarify information and address gaps.
  • Establish engagement with clients and assess suitability of referrals.
  • Provide immediate support and safety planning for domestic abuse victims.
  • Signpost or provide onward referrals to appropriate services.
  • Identify and assess risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based checklist.
  • Complete initial assessments and record immediate needs prior to allocation for longer support.
  • Support clients referred to Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC).
  • Liaise with professionals to ensure appropriate risk assessments and safeguarding measures.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with partner agencies and stakeholders.
  • Respond appropriately to child or adult protection concerns and escalate as necessary.

Key Skills:

  • IDVA qualification or relevant degree, or equivalent knowledge and skills from relevant employment.
  • Good understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on victims and children.
  • Knowledge of services available for perpetrators of domestic abuse.
  • Awareness of diverse issues related to HBV, Forced Marriage, LGBT, FGM, and cultural communities.
  • Substantial experience in the field of domestic abuse.
  • Experience in crisis intervention related to domestic abuse.
  • Experience providing support and guidance to professionals regarding domestic abuse.
  • Experience in assessing needs and conducting risk assessments for domestic abuse victims.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
