Summary: The Direct Tax Accountant role involves preparing direct tax provisions and managing corporate tax computations for a leading insurance company in London. The position requires collaboration with finance teams to analyze data and improve efficiency while providing technical tax input for various projects. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare direct tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and supporting analysis for statutory and group reporting
- Manage corporate tax computations (OneSource Corporate Tax / Alphatax) and handle HMRC correspondence and elections
- Post monthly tax charges, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and oversee consolidated tax reporting and proofs of tax
- Partner with onshore and offshore finance teams to analyse Oracle GL data, identify automation opportunities, and drive efficiency
- Support tax forecasting, including effective tax rate projections and Payments on Account
- Monitor tax processes, risks, and controls, escalating issues when required
- Provide technical tax input to finance and business projects, ensuring systems are fit for purpose
Key Skills:
- Qualified tax professional (CTA, ACA, or equivalent)
- At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a UK in-house tax role
- Solid technical knowledge of UK corporation tax and tax accounting
- Previous Big 4 experience preferred
- Confident engaging with tax authorities and external advisors
- Strong analytical and Excel skills; Oracle experience an advantage
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative
