Summary: This role is an internal opportunity for an Assistant Practitioner at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, aimed at training to become a qualified Radiographer through an 18-month funded course. We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated Assistant Practitioner working in breast to train and qualify as a Radiographer. The successful applicant must meet the entry requirements for Diagnostic Radiography bridging and top up course at University of Cumbria. This is an 18-month course funded by the Apprenticeship Levy Scheme. The candidate must be a level 5 Assistant Practitioner qualified in working within Breast Imaging. During training, the post holder will receive clinical training in the Radiology Department at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. They will be released for study days and to attend academic training at the University of Cumbria as necessary. Expenses will be reimbursed by the Trust, in line with policy. On completion of training and HCPC registration, the secondment will cease and the candidate will resume working within Breast Imaging as a Mammographer. All in house competencies must be completed on return.

Main duties of the job The successful applicant would be expected to participate in a busy general rotation including cross sectional imaging. To undertake X-ray examinations as an operator in accordance with IR(ME)R 2017, under indirect supervision of a more senior member of staff. To justify medical exposures using the Department’s IR(ME)R Examination Protocols to ensure a safe effective x-ray service to all patients. To produce a good quality diagnostic image whilst keeping the radiation dose as low as is reasonably practicable. To assess and treat a workload of patients whilst maintaining a high standard of care to all patients and staff. To comply with Trust, Departmental, Health and Safety and Data protection policies. To maintain at all times patients’ privacy and confidentiality.
