Summary: The role of DevOps + Snowflake Engineer involves supporting the development and delivery of an enterprise data platform while implementing engineering best practices. The engineer will work closely with the divisional data team to manage and prioritize DevOps activities related to the data warehouse. Reporting to the AVP of Data Engineering, the position requires expertise in both database administration and modern DevOps principles. The role is structured for a 6-month contract outside IR35, with a focus on automation, monitoring, and collaboration across teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing and managing security measures like role-based access control (RBAC), user authentication, data encryption, and data masking.
- Automating routine administrative tasks and building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines for reliable deployment of Snowflake SQL scripts and stored procedures.
- Setting up and managing monitoring and alerting systems to track platform health and performance, troubleshooting pipeline issues and operational incidents.
- Administering the Snowflake platform across different environments, managing accounts, warehouses, databases, schemas, and other database objects.
- Monitoring system performance, optimizing query performance, managing warehouse sizes, and controlling credit usage and storage costs.
- Acting as a liaison between data engineering and networking teams to resolve issues in the pipeline.
Key Skills:
- Expertise in traditional database administration and modern DevOps principles.
- Experience with Azure DevOps or other CI/CD pipeline technologies.
- Proficiency in SQL and Snowflake.
- Knowledge of security and compliance measures, including RBAC and data encryption.
- Ability to monitor system performance and optimize query performance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and understanding of networking issues.

We are looking to appoint a DevOps + Snowflake engineer to support the definition and delivery of an enterprise data platform with engineering best practices. Specifically, this role will help the divisional data team (DDT) to understand, manage, and prioritise DevOps activities and administration of the data warehouse. The role is reporting to the AVP Data engineering, who is responsible for prioritising, planning, and driving forward the data engineering and transformation tasks required.
Core Responsibilities
The combined role demands expertise in both traditional database administration and modern DevOps principles:
- Security and Compliance: Implementing and managing security measures like role-based access control (RBAC), user authentication (SSO, MFA), data encryption, and data masking to enforce security policies and compliance standards.
- Automation and CI/CD: Automating routine administrative tasks and building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines (using tools like Azure DevOps, or GitHub) for reliable and automated deployment of Snowflake SQL scripts and stored procedures.
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Setting up and managing monitoring and alerting systems to track platform health and performance, and serving as the first point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving pipeline issues and operational incidents. Keeping artefactory certificates updated and solving snyk scanner/SonarQube issues. Understand networking issues is also a plus.
- Collaboration: Acting as a liaison between data engineering and networking teams to solve issues in the pipeline
- Platform Administration: Administering the Snowflake platform across different environments (development, test, production), including managing accounts, warehouses, databases, schemas, and other database objects. Managing secrets, RBAC (role hierarchy), Database change management and reporting role needs.
- Performance and Cost Optimization: Monitoring system performance, optimizing query performance, managing warehouse sizes, and proactively controlling credit usage and storage costs to ensure efficiency.
