Summary: The role of DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer with Java is focused on enhancing the reliability and performance of applications within the global Investment Banking sector. The successful candidate will work on-site in Central London, collaborating with software engineers to implement deployment strategies and best practices in site reliability engineering. This position requires a strong background in Java backend engineering and experience with observability tools. The contract is for 12 months with potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guides and assists others in building appropriate level designs and gaining consensus from peers.
- Experience with Technical Observability tools like Dynatrace or Datadog.
- Collaborates with software engineers to design and implement deployment approaches using CI/CD pipelines.
- Designs, develops, tests, and implements solutions for availability, reliability, and scalability.
- Implements infrastructure, configuration, and network as code.
- Collaborates with technical experts and stakeholders to resolve complex problems.
- Utilizes service level indicators and objectives to proactively resolve issues.
- Supports the adoption of site reliability engineering best practices.
Key Skills:
- Proficient in Site Reliability culture and principles.
- Developer background with proficiency in JAVA Backend Engineering (Core JAVA, Microservices, Spring framework).
- Knowledge of software applications and technical processes (e.g., Cloud, AI, Android).
- Experience in Observability tools like Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk.
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, and Terraform.
- Familiarity with container orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes, Docker).
- Ability to troubleshoot common networking technologies and issues.
- Strong communication skills for collaborative teamwork.
- Proactive in recognizing roadblocks and learning new technologies.
- Ability to identify new technologies and solutions for design constraints.
- Initiative in implementing ideas to solve business problems.
