Summary: The role of DevOps Infrastructure Engineer involves supporting and enhancing IT and DevOps infrastructure for a leading defence company on a 3-month contract basis. The engineer will be responsible for planning, provisioning, and operational support of systems hardware and software to ensure efficient IT services. This position requires hands-on experience in DevOps practices and collaboration with developers for seamless integration. The role is based in Bristol with a hybrid working arrangement of 3 days onsite per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and configure virtual infrastructure, servers, and development tools to support business needs.
- Implement and maintain automation solutions, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Conduct system monitoring, performance tuning, and implement security best practices.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues efficiently.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth integration of code and infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain technical security controls aligned to frameworks such as NIST 800-53, CIS Benchmarks, and JSP standards.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to the infrastructure knowledge base.
- Support backup and disaster recovery processes and ensure business continuity measures are in place.
- Work alongside IT team members to deliver infrastructure enhancements and project-based work.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience in DevOps and infrastructure engineering roles.
- Proficient in system administration (Windows Server and Linux), scripting, and automation.
- Skilled in containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience working with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Artifactory, and Git.
- Understanding of secure system design and relevant security standards (e.g. NIST, NCSC, CIS, JSP).
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., Nutanix, VMware).
- Working knowledge of monitoring and security tools (e.g., Wazuh, Nessus, PRTG, Microsoft Defender).
- Ability to quickly absorb technical requirements and deliver effective infrastructure solutions.
