Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to support, optimize, and scale a production AWS-based data platform for a public sector client.
You will focus on operational support, CI/CD, and platform reliability while mentoring junior client engineers.
As legacy platforms are decommissioned, you will also contribute to designing and building new platform components and automation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform Operations: Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot AWS-hosted data platforms and infrastructure to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
- Automation & CI/CD: Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab). Build reusable tools using Python.
- Platform Optimization: Identify cost efficiencies, manage patching/upgrades, reduce technical debt, and optimize AWS resources.
- Technical Leadership: Mentor junior client engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion engineering best practices in an Agile environment.
- Platform Evolution: Assist in decommissioning legacy systems and building modern cloud data platform capabilities.
Essential Criteria
- Active SC Clearance (Must be held currently).
- AWS Expertise: Proven hands-on experience with core AWS services (IAM, EC2, S3, CloudWatch, VPC) and AWS Data services (EMR, Glue).
- Infrastructure as Code: Strong experience with Terraform.
- CI/CD & Scripting: Deep experience with GitLab CI/CD (runners/pipelines) and advanced Python automation scripting.
- Production Support: Proven background troubleshooting complex, production-grade cloud platforms and data workloads.
- Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to guide, coach, and upskill junior engineers.
