Summary: As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for building, operating, and improving the infrastructure and deployment pipelines for Royal Navy digital services. Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, operate, and improve infrastructure and deployment pipelines for digital services.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, platform specialists, security teams, and delivery leads.
  • Ensure services are resilient, observable, and compliant with MOD security requirements.
  • Influence platform standards and DevOps practices across the programme.
  • Work in a hands-on, delivery-focused environment.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in a DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering role.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience in regulated or secure environments.
  • Proficiency in Java and React.
  • Experience with AWS, Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Strong proficiency in Git and CI/CD pipelines managed via GitLab.

DevOps Engineer – SC CLEARED - OUTSIDE IR35 – HIRING ASAP

Start date: ASAP

Duration: 6 Months

Location: 1-2 days per fortnight in the Portsmouth office. Rest is remote working.

Rate: £500 - £585 per day OUTSIDE IR35 SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for building, operating, and improving the infrastructure and deployment pipelines that underpin a wide range of Royal Navy digital services. You will work as part of multidisciplinary delivery teams, enabling fast, reliable, and secure software delivery through automation, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, platform specialists, security teams, and delivery leads to ensure services are resilient, observable, and compliant with MOD security and accreditation requirements. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with opportunities to influence platform standards and DevOps ways of working across the programme.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in a DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering role within complex digital environments.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments).
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working in regulated or secure environments (defence, government, or similar preferred).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in use of Java and React
  • Use of AWS for cloud infrastructure, implementing Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
  • Docker and the Kubernetes ecosystem, including deployment and management of clusters using EKS.
  • Integral to continuous delivery workflows, specifically through ArgoCD, driven by strong proficiency in Git and CI/CD pipelines managed via GitLab.
  • Incorporates traditional VMware environments and direct Baremetal deployments for specific performance or security requirements.
  • Key, primarily using Python or PowerShell within Linux environments
