Summary: The DevOps Engineer role involves supporting a major UK energy project by shaping and maintaining cloud platforms with a focus on automation. The position requires collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance infrastructure reliability and secure operations. The engineer will work with cloud-native services, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code, while also ensuring compliance and security standards are met. This role is pivotal in driving the transition to sustainable power through digital infrastructure initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure and manage cloud-native services across Azure and AWS
- Drive efficiency, resilience, and cost-effectiveness through hands-on infrastructure management
- Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines to support frequent and reliable releases
- Ensure full automation of build, test, and deployment stages using modern tooling
- Implement and manage IaC using tools like ARM templates and CloudFormation
- Maintain infrastructure definitions under source control for consistency and repeatability
- Establish observability standards using tools such as Azure Monitor and CloudWatch
- Act as a point of escalation for critical incidents, ensuring rapid diagnosis and resolution
- Partner with engineers, testers, and security leads to align practices and deployment goals
- Provide DevOps insight during the release cycle and across support tiers (including P1/P2 scenarios)
- Apply cloud security controls, from IAM policies to encryption standards
- Contribute to audit readiness and compliance adherence
Key Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in a DevOps capacity, ideally within energy trading, finance, or banking environments
- Fluency in both AWS and Azure ecosystems
- Solid scripting ability using Python and PowerShell
- Hands-on knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent IaC frameworks
- Comfortable managing cloud networks, identity, and access policies
- Effective communicator who thrives in agile delivery setups
- Skilled at solving infrastructure challenges in high-availability, production-grade environments
