Summary: The Design Engineer role focuses on wastewater projects within a leading UK engineering consultancy, requiring expertise in design and coordination of wastewater assets. The position is hybrid, based in Manchester, and involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will contribute to critical infrastructure improvements and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver detailed design solutions across wastewater and clean water infrastructure projects
- Produce and review technical drawings, design calculations, and specifications
- Support project delivery through the full lifecycle including concept, tender, and construction stages
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers
- Assist with design risk management in line with CDM regulations and industry standards
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and client stakeholders to ensure design compliance
- Contribute to programme, cost, and technical delivery on utility frameworks
Key Skills:
- Proven experience working as a Water or Wastewater Design Engineer
- Strong background in the UK utilities sector (Severn Trent, United Utilities, Anglian Water etc. beneficial)
- Experience delivering designs for wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines or drainage schemes
- Strong understanding of relevant standards, safety, and environmental compliance
- Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within project teams

A leading UK-based engineering and infrastructure consultancy is currently seeking an experienced Water Design Engineer with a strong background in wastewater and utility projects to support a growing pipeline of work across the North West.
This is a hybrid role based out of Manchester, working on critical wastewater treatment and network improvement schemes within a high-performing technical delivery team.
You will play a key role in the design and coordination of wastewater assets, supporting projects from early design through to construction and handover.
