Summary: The Design Engineer role at Elevation Recruitment Group involves a hands-on, project-focused position within a key engineering client in Plymouth. The successful candidate will support both new product development and improvements to existing products over a 3-month fixed-term contract. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of new and existing products, supporting delivery from concept through to production
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, high-quality design solutions
- Create, update, and manage 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, ensuring accurate version control
- Design and source jigs, fixtures, and production tooling to support manufacturing
- Produce technical documentation including design specifications, risk assessments, test plans, and manuals
- Carry out mechanical analysis and validation to ensure compliance with relevant standards
- Support production with troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical input to internal stakeholders including sales and operations
- Liaise with suppliers and external partners to support project delivery
- Assist with cost estimation, project tracking, and meeting delivery milestones
Key Skills:
- Proficient in 3D CAD (Solid Edge / Teamcenter preferred, though training can be provided)
- Strong problem-solving ability with a practical, hands-on engineering approach
- Experience producing clear technical documentation and supporting design reviews
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and best practice design processes
- Knowledge of welded fabrications and cast components highly desirable
- Exposure to composites or basic electrical principles would be beneficial
- Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as PDCA

You’ll play a key role in delivering design solutions to tight timescales, contributing across the full product lifecycle from concept through to production support.
Design Engineer – Key Responsibilities

- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Proven experience in a Design Engineer role within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Experience within a regulated industry (e.g. rail, aerospace, automotive) would be advantageous
