Design Engineer - Cooling Systems

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer Cooling Systems to support the design and development of ESS cooling system components for high-performance automotive applications.

The Design Engineer Cooling Systems will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions throughout the full product development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to engineering release, ensuring compliance with design, manufacturing, packaging and quality requirements.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Design and develop ESS expansion tanks, cooling hoses and associated mounting and interface components.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using CATIA V5/V6.
  • Apply GD&T principles in line with company and industry standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations including bolt strength, expansion tank volume and hose clamp calculations.
  • Complete tolerance stack-up analysis and interface assessments.
  • Support vehicle and powertrain integration activities and resolve packaging issues.
  • Prepare CAD models for CFD analysis.
  • Support DFMEA activities, engineering reviews and design validation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure Design for Manufacture (DFM) compliance.
  • Support prototype builds, production release activities and engineering change processes.
  • Release engineering data through PLM/Product Data Management systems.
  • Attend project meetings, provide progress updates and support additional engineering projects where required.

Requirements of the Role

  • Previous experience in automotive component design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of cooling systems, fluid transfer systems and ESS/Battery thermal management.
  • Advanced CATIA V5/V6 skills.
  • Experience producing 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis and DFM principles.
  • Experience supporting DFMEA activities.
  • Understanding of engineering release processes and PLM systems.
  • Ability to perform mechanical calculations and engineering analysis.
  • Experience of vehicle packaging and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
  • Experience designing cooling components such as expansion tanks, reservoirs, hoses, pipework, brackets and mountings would be advantageous.
  • Experience within high-performance automotive, motorsport, EV, hybrid or premium automotive environments is desirable.
  • Ideally degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
