Deputy Principal Planning Lawyer

London Local Authority

Locum Contract

Hybrid Working

Up to £80ph (umbrella) DOE

A reputable London local authority is seeking to recruit an interim Deputy Principal Planning Lawyer to join their team on a locum basis, starting in early September.

The Deputy Principal Planning Lawyer will join the London Council on an initial three-month locum contract, which will then be extended on a rolling basis pending permanent recruitment. Office and committee attendance is flexible. While hybrid working is preferred, remote applicants will still be considered.

The role will involve managing a backlog of Section 106 Agreements and Unilateral Undertakings, advising on planning enforcement notices, appeals, property-related regulations and Section 111 Agreements. The Deputy Principal Lawyer will also support the implementation of changes to planning legislation, publishing legal decisions, and acting as a trusted adviser to the Council, its officers and elected Members.

The successful Deputy Principal Lawyer will be responsible for leading a team of approximately three to four direct reports in a hands-on management role. This is a senior position requiring extensive experience in planning law, ideally gained within a local authority setting, with the confidence and expertise to provide advice across a broad range of complex matters.
