Summary: The Democratic Services Team Leader at Barnsley Council is responsible for overseeing the Council's decision-making processes and leading a team of Democratic Services Officers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support formal decision-making processes within the Council, including by Cabinet.
  • Manage a team of Democratic Services Officers providing advice and support to Council meetings.
  • Ensure effective organization and decision-making in hearings such as School Admission Appeals and Independent Review Panels.
  • Collaborate with officers across the Council to promote good governance.
  • Provide leadership to maintain and improve the Council’s decision-making processes.

About The Post Barnsley Council is offering a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in Barnsley . If you care about democracy and would like to work with the public, political parties , and C ouncillors to make democracy happen in Barnsley , then this is your opportunity. Due to maternity leave for around 12 months , w e are to recruit someone who has a keen knowledge and interest in the democratic processes, who can provide leadership in maintaining and improving the C ouncil’s decision-making processes . As Team Leader you will support formal pr ocesses for making decisions within the Council , including by Cabinet, and manag e a team of Democratic Services O fficer s who provid e effective advice and support to meetings of the Council such as Planning Regulatory Board, Licensing Regulatory Board and the six Area Councils . In addition, you will also provide leadership to the team to ensure appropriate organisation of and decision making in hearings such as School Admission Appeals, Independent Review Panels for School Exclusions and a number of Charity Boards. Based in Law, Democratic and Member Services , t he role is varied, work in g with officers from across the Council , is fundamental to ensuring good governance within the Council. The successful applicant will have experience in democratic processes , exceptional leadership skills, goo d IT skills , ability to form relationships with a wide range of people, and a drive to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective democratic processes within the C ouncil .
