Summary: The Democratic Services Officer role involves providing essential administrative and procedural support to various council committees in a local authority in South East England. The position requires strong knowledge of council meeting protocols and excellent minute-taking skills. This interim contract is full-time and offers hybrid working arrangements. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full administrative and procedural support for a range of council committees (excluding Full Council and Corporate Management Committee).
  • Prepare agendas, coordinate reports, publish meeting papers, and take accurate minutes.
  • Advise committee chairs, members, and officers on procedural and constitutional matters.
  • Ensure meetings are conducted in line with statutory and policy requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and support democratic transparency and public access to information.
  • Support councillor engagement and development as needed.

Key Skills:

  • Previous experience in Democratic Services, Committee Services, or Governance within local government.
  • Strong working knowledge of council meeting protocols and decision-making processes.
  • Excellent minute-taking and document preparation skills.
  • Politically aware, with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Salary (Rate): £30/hour

Democratic Services Officer

Location: South East England (Hybrid Working)

Rate: Competitive day rate (Inside IR35)

Contract: Interim - 3 to 6 months, full-time

Start: ASAP

We are supporting a local authority in the South East of England in their search for an experienced Democratic Services Officer to provide essential support to the democratic process during a busy period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full administrative and procedural support for a range of council committees (excluding Full Council and Corporate Management Committee).
