Summary: The Defect Manager for Infrastructure/Networking will oversee all programme-wide defect streams for a significant multi-site infrastructure transformation at a leading public sector institution. This role involves end-to-end defect management, including triage, tracking, and resolution across various teams and suppliers. The position requires a strong understanding of networking fundamentals and extensive hands-on defect management experience. The role is pivotal in supporting the rollout of physical devices and networked hardware across a large estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end defect processes across multiple workstreams in a large infrastructure implementation project.
  • Conduct triage, assignment, tracking, reporting, and resolution of defects.
  • Collaborate with on-site teams, engineers, suppliers, and service functions.
  • Run multi-stream defect processes including UAT findings, network alerts, user-raised issues, and supplier defects.
  • Utilize Jira for dashboards, reporting, and maintaining audit trails.
  • Work independently and drive pace without step-by-step direction.
  • Manage defects across a multi-vendor, multi-site infrastructure programme.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, Firewalls, VRFs, segmentation; Juniper experience beneficial).
  • Extensive hands-on defect management in physical infrastructure environments.
  • Expert-level Jira skills.
  • Proven ability to work under tight resolution windows.
  • Demonstrable ability to take ownership and drive resolution.
  • Experience managing defects in a multi-vendor environment.

Salary (Rate): £500 daily

Defect Manager - Infrastructure/Networking

Pay Rate: £500 (via umbrella)

Duration: 12 months initial (scope to extend)

Working arrangement: 3 times a week in Bristol

A leading public sector institution is undertaking a major multi-site infrastructure transformation and is seeking an experienced Defect Manager to take ownership of all programme-wide defect streams. This is a pivotal, high-visibility role supporting the rollout of physical devices and networked hardware across a large estate.

You will be responsible for end-to-end defect management across multiple workstreams within a large infrastructure implementation project. This includes triage, assignment, tracking, reporting, and driving resolution across on-site teams, engineers, suppliers, and service functions.

Experience required:

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, Firewalls, VRFs, segmentation; Juniper experience beneficial)
  • Extensive hands-on defect management in physical infrastructure environments (printers, network equipment, building hardware, connected devices, etc.)
  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals: understanding of VLANs, Firewalls, VRFs, segment management, preferably with Juniper switch exposure (operation, not configuration).
  • Expert-level Jira skills, including dashboards, reporting, and full audit trail maintenance
  • Proven ability to run multi-stream defect processes including UAT findings, network alerts, user-raised issues, and supplier defects
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive pace without step-by-step direction
  • Comfortable working under tight resolution windows (eg, five-day warranty periods)
  • Experience managing defects across multi-vendor, multi-site infrastructure programme
