Summary: The Database Developer role is focused on supporting and enhancing the data and database estate of a specialist insurance organization in the London market. The position involves hands-on database administration, development, and optimization across SQL-based and cloud data platforms. The developer will collaborate with infrastructure teams and contribute to the future database strategy during a key growth phase. Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance tuning and optimisation of production databases
  • Database development, upgrades, migrations and deployments
  • Working with SQL Server, Snowflake and cloud data platforms
  • Supporting data analytics and visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI)
  • Managing database scripts, schema changes and compliance updates
  • Data loads and refreshes for development and UAT environments
  • Incident analysis and resolution related to database systems
  • Escalation and collaboration with wider technology teams where required
  • Database maintenance, backups, restores and patching
  • Supporting integration of systems and applications
  • Contributing to database standards, documentation and procedures
  • Logging activities within ITSM tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira) to meet SDLC and security requirements

Key Skills:

  • 3+ years’ experience in database administration and data management
  • Strong experience with SQL Server (2008 R2 through to 2019)
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake (primary focus) and Azure SQL
  • Experience with performance tuning, backups, recovery models and high availability
  • Working knowledge of data analytics and visualisation tools
  • Understanding of SQL Always On, clustering and cloud database concepts
  • Experience delivering work in fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Strong communication skills, including engagement with senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR)
  • Prior exposure to insurance or London market environments is desirable
  • Experience supporting Oracle database environments (nice to have)
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a related IT discipline

About the Employer

A specialist insurance organisation operating within the London market is seeking an experienced DBA / Database Developer to support and enhance its data and database estate during a key phase of growth. This role combines hands-on database administration with development, optimisation and forward-looking improvements across modern cloud and data platforms.

The Role

You will take ownership of the administration, performance, security and integrity of production and non-production databases, primarily across SQL-based and cloud data platforms. Alongside day-to-day DBA responsibilities, you will help shape improvements, adopt best practices and support future database strategy. You will also work closely with infrastructure and operations teams to plan, build and troubleshoot applications and data solutions. Some collaboration with international teams may require flexible working hours.
