The Role
- Design and implement highly available AWS database solutions.
- Administer and optimise AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS and PostgreSQL environments.
- Lead database performance tuning, query optimisation and indexing strategies.
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, replication and disaster recovery solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Drive database resilience, security and operational best practice.
- Support data reconciliation, integrity validation and capacity planning.
- Contribute to architecture reviews and technical governance.
Essential Skills
- Strong commercial experience with:
- AWS Aurora
- Amazon RDS
- PostgreSQL
- Database architecture and solution design experience.
- Performance tuning and SQL optimisation expertise.
- Database schema design and data modelling.
- High availability, replication, backup and disaster recovery.
- AWS services including IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, VPC and Secrets Manager.
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
- AWS Database Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect certification.
- Experience with MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB or Redis.
- Previous experience delivering within regulated or public sector environments.
