Summary: The Database Administrator role involves managing the performance, integrity, and security of the organization's databases. The position requires collaboration with IT professionals to design and implement database solutions that meet organizational needs. Active security clearance is mandatory for this role, which is offered on a 6-month initial contract basis. The working arrangement is hybrid, requiring two days on-site in Telford each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) software.
- Monitor database performance and ensure efficient operation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.
- Perform regular backups and ensure data recovery capabilities.
- Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Control access permissions and privileges for database users.
- Conduct security audits and implement necessary changes to enhance security.
- Design, develop, and implement databases as per organizational requirements.
- Optimize database structures and queries for maximum performance.
- Define and enforce data standards and guidelines.
- Estimate future database capacity requirements and plan for expansion.
- Recommend hardware and software upgrades to support growing database needs.
- Document database configurations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Generate reports on database usage, performance, and security.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database usage in applications.
- Provide technical support and guidance to users and other IT staff.
- Stay updated with latest database technologies and best practices.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
- Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) are a plus.
