Summary: The role of MySQL DBA involves managing and optimizing MySQL database environments within a technical team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will focus on performance tuning, troubleshooting, and supporting database migrations for business-critical applications. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring high availability and reliability of database systems. The contract is initially for six months and is classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration and maintenance of MySQL database environments
- Performance monitoring, tuning and optimisation
- Query analysis and optimisation
- Indexing and database design improvements
- Backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning
- Troubleshooting database issues and ensuring high availability
- Supporting database migrations, upgrades and deployments
- Working closely with development and infrastructure teams
Key Skills:
- Strong commercial experience as a MySQL DBA or Database Engineer
- Experience managing large production MySQL databases
- Excellent knowledge of MySQL performance tuning and optimisation
- Strong understanding of InnoDB, indexing and query execution plans
- Experience with replication and backup/recovery strategies
- Linux administration experience
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues
- Desirable MySQL Enterprise experience
- Experience with AWS RDS, Aurora MySQL or other cloud-hosted database platforms
- Scripting experience (Bash, Python or similar)
- Experience with database migrations and upgrades
