Summary: The SQL Server DBA is tasked with ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of SQL Server databases. This role encompasses managing database systems, implementing backup and recovery strategies, and optimizing performance. The DBA will also collaborate with developers to enhance database schemas and queries while maintaining compliance with data governance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances and databases.
- Monitor and optimize database performance, including query optimization and indexing strategies.
- Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Manage database security, including user access and permissions, to protect sensitive data.
- Diagnose and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and connectivity problems.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as database integrity checks and updates to database statistics.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Automate SQL server tasks to ensure consistent and repeatable executions.
- Work with application developers to design and optimize database schemas and queries.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for database systems.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role, typically 3-5 years.
- Proficiency in SQL Server database management and administration.
- Good knowledge of SQL Server related services (Reporting Services, Integration services, ...)
- Awareness and experience in implementing security standards.
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL and database programming.
- Familiarity with SQL Server tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Good knowledge about other technologies like PostgreSQL, Oracle, Mysql and Scom is a plus.
