Role Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance workforce planning models that support long-term healthcare workforce forecasting and demand planning.
- Analyse complex datasets to understand workforce inflows, outflows, activity trends, and service demand across NHS settings.
- Apply system dynamics and simulation modelling techniques to improve existing models and develop new forecasting capabilities.
- Translate research evidence, operational data, and stakeholder requirements into robust analytical models and actionable insights.
- Collaborate with workforce planning and analytical teams to deliver modelling projects within challenging timescales.
- Produce visualisations, reports, and dashboards that communicate modelling outputs to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Skills and Experience Required
- Proven experience working as a Data Scientist within a complex data-driven environment.
- Strong Python development skills with experience building, maintaining, and enhancing analytical or simulation models.
- Experience of system dynamics modelling, simulation engines, or forecasting methodologies.
- Knowledge of NHS activity, demand, referral, population health, or workforce data and how it influences service planning.
- Strong SQL skills with experience extracting, manipulating, and analysing large datasets.
- Experience using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and ideally R to support analysis, reporting, and data visualisation.
