Data Science Manager - 6 month contract - £800 a day OutsideIR35 - Insurance - London Hybrid

My client is an Insurance company looking for a Data Science Manager who combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen. This is a pivotal role leading the design, development, and delivery of advanced data science and AI solutions, with a particular focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and emerging AI agent/multi-agent architectures.

You will operate at the intersection of technology and business, shaping strategy while remaining hands-on with cutting-edge tools and frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and ML engineers, setting technical direction and best practices
• Design and deliver scalable AI/ML solutions on GCP (Vertex AI, BigQuery, etc.)
• Architect and implement AI agent and multi-agent systems, including orchestration and autonomous workflows
• Translate complex business challenges into data science solutions with measurable impact
• Engage senior stakeholders to define strategy, roadmap, and value realisation
• Remain hands-on with model development, deployment, and optimisation
• Drive innovation across areas such as LLMs, generative AI, and decision intelligence
• Ensure robust MLOps practices, governance, and model life cycle management

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in a Data Science Manager/Lead Data Scientist role
• Strong technical expertise in Python, machine learning, and statistical modelling
• Deep experience with GCP (Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, etc.)
• Hands-on experience building or working with AI agents/multi-agent systems
• Strong understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, and generative AI frameworks
• Experience implementing MLOps and deploying models into production environments
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels
• Excellent stakeholder management with clear business communication skills

Desirable

• Experience with agent frameworks (eg LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI or similar)
• Exposure to Real Time/streaming data environments
• Background in complex enterprise transformations or data strategy initiative
