Summary: The role of Data Protection SME involves providing temporary support to the Information Assurance function of a large public sector organization during a period of increased demand and organizational change. The successful candidate will act in a Deputy DPO capacity, offering hands-on expertise and strategic leadership in data protection activities. This position is hybrid and requires a strong understanding of UK GDPR and experience in a regulated environment. The contract duration is between 6 to 12 months, classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, improve, and embed data protection processes and controls
- Define and formalise escalation routes and governance
- Support delivery across DSARs, Rectification and erasure requests, FOI matters, and related data protection and disclosure activity
- Provide strategic problem-solving support within a regulated, operational environment
- Take ownership of specific projects and workstreams, reducing pressure on senior stakeholders
Key Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in a Data Protection role
- Strong, practical knowledge of UK GDPR and information assurance
- Experience working in policing, law enforcement, or the wider public sector highly desirable
- Proven track record of reviewing and improving processes during periods of change
- Comfortable operating within regulated, complex organisational cultures
- Must be willing and eligible to undergo vetting
