Summary: The Data Protection Manager role is a temporary full-time position for a University, primarily remote with monthly attendance in the West Midlands. The position requires expertise in Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and involves managing the DPIA process and advising on international data transfers. The ideal candidate should have experience in higher education and confidence in high-level meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attending and contributing to key governance meetings, including the Data Governance Board and associated working groups, in the absence of the DPO.
  • Managing the DPIA process, including assessing, drafting, and completing DPIAs to ensure they are thorough, accurate, and compliant.
  • Ensuring all DPIAs are properly documented, approved, and recorded in the DPIA register, with ongoing monitoring where required.
  • Advising on and managing international data transfers, particularly those involving third-party software platforms and cloud services.

Key Skills:

  • Experience handling Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Experience within Higher Education is highly desirable.
  • Confidence in deputising for senior colleagues and contributing to high-level meetings and strategic decision-making.

Salary (Rate): £50.00/hr

Detailed Description From Employer:

We are proud to be partnering with a University who are looking to appoint a Data Protection Manager on an initial 3-month temporary basis. This will be a full-time position based predominantly from home , with attendance required in the West Midlands approximately once per month, and an hourly rate of circa £250 per day via an Umbrella company The ideal candidate will have experience handling Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Attending and contributing to key governance meetings, including the Data Governance Board and associated working groups, in the absence of the DPO
  • Managing the DPIA process, including assessing, drafting, and completing DPIAs to ensure they are thorough, accurate, and compliant
  • Ensuring all DPIAs are properly documented, approved, and recorded in the DPIA register, with ongoing monitoring where required
  • Advising on and managing international data transfers, particularly those involving third-party software platforms and cloud services

Experience required:

  • Experience within Higher Education is highly desirable
  • Experience dealing with DPIAs
  • Confidence in deputising for senior colleagues and contributing to high-level meetings and strategic decision-making

Working hours: 37 hours per week Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
