Summary: The Data Protection Compliance Manager at Co-op is tasked with ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and managing the Compliance Programme for continuous improvement. This role involves providing expert guidance, conducting compliance monitoring, and overseeing investigations related to data protection issues. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Co-op's Data Protection compliance monitoring programme through regular assessments, reporting, and escalation of non-compliance issues.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to enhance and maintain compliance with data protection requirements.
  • Review and update Co-op's policies, standards, codes of practice, and guidance concerning Data Protection.
  • Communicate key data protection updates and developments to stakeholders to ensure ongoing awareness.
  • Ensure all data controllers within Co-op have the appropriate data protection notifications in place with the ICO to mitigate legal risks.
  • Oversee investigations into executive, internal, and ICO complaints related to data protection non-compliance, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
  • Produce compliance reports, trend analyses, and tailored presentations regarding Co-op's data protection compliance status.

Key Skills:

  • Expert knowledge and experience in data protection and related legislation.
  • Data Protection Qualification preferred (e.g., ISEB DP).
  • Proven experience in implementing data protection compliance in a large, complex organisation with diverse business units.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legislation and risk management concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a pragmatic and risk-based approach to advice and guidance.
