Summary: The Data Privacy Consultant role involves working within the Privacy & Compliance team to ensure data protection principles are effectively implemented through technical controls. Privacy Assurance, Data Privacy Consultant, contract, outside IR35 Privacy Assurance Consultant, Senior Product Owner to join Privacy & Compliance team on a contract basis. This role sits at the intersection of privacy, technology and assurance, ensuring that data protection principles are translated into actionable, testable and automated technical controls across the digital ecosystem. You'll work closely with Engineering, Legal and Compliance to operationalise privacy-by-design, codify policy into measurable requirements, and maintain a framework of automated privacy assurance checks.

Responsibilities

  • Translate privacy policies and legal requirements into non-functional, testable specifications that can be automated and validated within engineering workflows.
  • Conduct technical impact assessments on tracking technologies and data flows, supporting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Third-Party Security Assessments (TPSAs).
  • Audit technical designs, SDKs, and vendor integrations to ensure compliance with privacy guardrails.
  • Identify scenarios requiring Legal or Data Protection consultation.
  • Convert ambiguous legal language into clear, testable technical requirements and assurance logic.
  • Maintain and evolve a Privacy Assurance Toolkit, including automated tests, checklists, vendor selection criteria, and test case libraries.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between Legal, Compliance, Security, Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams.

Experience

  • Strong technical depth in web and mobile environments, including SDKs, event streaming, identity resolution, encryption and logging/observability.
  • Demonstrated ability to write non-functional requirements (NFRs) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) specifications.
  • Deep understanding of GDPR, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). and relevant regulatory guidance.
  • Proven capability to lead or contribute to Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) with both legal and technical insight.
  • Experience in privacy audit and assurance, with the ability to critically assess vendor claims and architecture designs.
  • Skilled in managing relationships across technical and non-technical stakeholders (Engineering, Legal, Product, Procurement, Security, Architecture).
