Summary: The Senior Data Platform Consultant role involves leading the design and implementation of Azure-centric data platforms within a key data programme on a 6-month contract. This hybrid position requires UK-based candidates with expertise in Azure Databricks, Spark, and Python, particularly in the commodities or financial services sectors. The consultant will provide technical authority and strategic input while driving best practices in data engineering and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and build of a scalable, secure Azure-based data platform.
- Act as a technical authority across the data team, providing strategic input and hands-on support.
- Drive best practices in data engineering, development, and DevOps within the team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Champion data quality, governance, and performance standards across the platform.
Key Skills:
- Experience in data engineering, data architecture, or platform development.
- Proven background in building and designing large-scale data platforms, preferably on Microsoft Azure.
- Strong experience with Azure Databricks (including Unity Catalog and Delta Lake), Apache Spark, and Python.
- Experience in big data architecture design and implementation.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native data services, especially within the Azure ecosystem.
- Team leadership experience - must be capable of guiding a technical team, resolving challenges, and mentoring junior members.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with Azure DevOps is a strong plus.
- Background in commodities or financial services domains is preferred.
