Summary: The Data Governance Operating Model (DGOM) Business Lead will spearhead data governance initiatives within a government client, focusing on aligning data governance with strategic objectives and managing cultural change. The role requires expertise in data governance principles and frameworks, as well as strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. The successful candidate will also oversee programme and supplier management to ensure project milestones are met. Additionally, experience in cloud data governance and enterprise-level transformations is desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead data governance initiatives within a public sector or geospatial organisation.
  • Align data governance with strategic objectives and articulate the business case for investment.
  • Manage cultural change to embed data governance as a business priority.
  • Work within programme/project management structures to ensure project delivery.
  • Manage external suppliers to deliver agreed milestones and outputs.
  • Oversee budget management, risk assessment, and issue resolution.
  • Engage stakeholders at executive and senior leadership levels.
  • Collaborate with technology, data, and business teams to align governance with operational needs.
  • Translate technical data governance concepts into clear business value.

Key Skills:

  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices (e.g., DAMA, DCAM, CDMC).
  • Experience in leading data governance initiatives in the public sector.
  • Knowledge of data management, data quality, metadata, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to manage cultural change and align governance with business priorities.
  • Experience in programme/project management methodologies (MSP, Agile).
  • Skills in managing external suppliers and ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Experience in budget management, risk assessment, and issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Desirable experience in cloud data governance and AI/ML governance requirements.
