Summary: Data Engineer with expertise in Microsoft Fabric is required for a 6-month hybrid contract in London, focusing on enterprise data platform architecture and team leadership. The role involves technical leadership, stakeholder management, and ensuring operational readiness. The position is with a leading global IT and digital transformation business specializing in government projects, with an ideal start date in January 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Owning Microsoft Fabric architecture including Lakehouse, OneLake organization, and Warehouse patterns.
- Defining and implementing ingestion and transformation pipelines (Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks).
- Establishing modelling standards for Gold Layer and semantic models, performance optimization, lineage/observability, governance, RBAC, security, and data retention.
- Setting standards, directing and mentoring the team, reviewing designs, and unblocking delivery.
- Planning and coordinating internal squads and external suppliers, managing risks/issues, and meeting milestones.
- Engaging with product owners, analysts, and tech leads for progress/risk reporting.
- Coordinating reliable ingestion and orchestration, testing, test data preparation, and reporting validation.
- Ensuring documentation/run books and non-functional requirements are met (security, resilience, performance).
- Baseline Gold Layer model components to enable consistent semantic models and reporting.
Key Skills:
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Fabric enterprise data platform.
- Experience in technical leadership and team management.
- Proficiency in data ingestion and transformation pipelines.
- Knowledge of performance optimization and data governance.

Data Engineer needed with strong Microsoft Fabric enterprise data platform expertise. 6 Month Contract based in London (Hybrid). Paying £500/day (Inside IR35).
Hybrid Working - 3 days/week remote (WFH), and 2 days/week working on-site from the office in Central London.
A chance to work with a leading global IT and Digital transformation business specialising in Government projects. Start ASAP ideally in Jan 2026.
Key experience + tasks will include:
- Technical Leadership: owning Microsoft Fabric architecture including: Lakehouse, OneLake organization, Warehouse patterns, Gold Layer modelling, defining / implementing ingestion + transformation pipelines (Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks), establishing modelling standards for Gold Layer + semantic models, performance optimization, lineage/observability, governance, RBAC, security, data retention.
- Team Leading / Delivery: setting standards, directing / mentoring the team, reviewing designs, unblocking delivery.
- Planning / coordinating internal squads and external suppliers, managing risks/issues + meeting milestones.
- Stakeholder Management: engaging with product owners, analysts + tech leads, progress/risk reporting.
- Multi-source Integration: coordinating reliable ingestion + orchestration, testing, test data preparation, reporting validation, release practices.
- Operational Readiness: ensuring documentation / run books + non-functional requirements are met (security, resilience, performance).
- Short-Term Objective: baseline Gold Layer model components to enable consistent semantic models and reporting.
- SC Clearance preferred, but the client will also consider candidates eligible to undergo the SC Clearance vetting process.
