Summary: The Azure Data Engineer role involves supporting a major data migration program by designing, building, and optimizing scalable data solutions in Azure. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure a smooth transition from legacy systems to a modern cloud-based platform. The contract is outside IR35 and requires on-site presence two days a week in Stockport. The ideal candidate should have proven experience in Azure data engineering and large-scale data migration projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to end-to-end data migration activities into Azure.
- Design and develop Azure data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and related services.
- Build and optimise ETL/ELT workflows to support migration and ongoing data processing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Implement data modelling, data quality frameworks, and best-practice engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot and enhance existing data processes for performance, cost efficiency, and reliability.
- Ensure governance, security, and compliance across data assets.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience delivering Azure-based data engineering solutions.
- Strong background in large-scale data migration projects.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Azure SQL, Delta Lake, and related services.
- Proficient in Python and/or SQL for data engineering workflows.
- Solid understanding of data modelling, data warehousing concepts, and cloud-based data architectures.
- Experience with DevOps practices (CI/CD, Git, ARM/Bicep/Terraform) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
