Data Engineer

Summary: The role of Database Developer at a leading global investment bank in Glasgow involves designing and developing scalable database solutions and automated data pipelines in a hybrid working environment. The position requires collaboration with global stakeholders and development teams to deliver high-performance database solutions that support trading and reporting systems. Candidates should have a strong background in data/database development, particularly with SQL and relational databases, and be familiar with Agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with global business users and development teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable database/reporting solutions
• Design and build optimised databases, stored procedures, and queries
• Develop ETL workflows and data automation scripts using SQL, Python, and related tools
• Optimise database performance, including indexing, tuning, and query optimisation
• Support the development of automation and monitoring tools
• Contribute to Agile processes such as daily scrums, sprints, and retrospectives

Key Skills:

• Extensive years of experience in a similar data/database development role
• Strong experience in SQL and relational databases such as DB2, SQL Server, Postgres, Greenplum, or SingleStore
• Familiarity with Python and Unix/K-Shell scripting
• Good understanding of database design, performance tuning, and data modelling (tools like Power Designer are a plus)
• Exposure to Kafka, Snowflake, Spark, or Databricks is highly desirable (but not essential - training provided)
• Knowledge of the investment banking domain or trade lifecycle is advantageous
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a global team environment
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development setup
