Summary: The role of Database Developer at a leading global investment bank in Glasgow involves designing and developing scalable database solutions and automated data pipelines in a hybrid working environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with global business users and development teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable database/reporting solutions
- Design and build optimised databases, stored procedures, and queries
- Develop ETL workflows and data automation scripts using SQL, Python, and related tools
- Optimise database performance, including indexing, tuning, and query optimisation
- Support the development of automation and monitoring tools
- Contribute to Agile processes such as daily scrums, sprints, and retrospectives
Key Skills:
- Extensive years of experience in a similar data/database development role
- Strong experience in SQL and relational databases such as DB2, SQL Server, Postgres, Greenplum, or SingleStore
- Familiarity with Python and Unix/K-Shell Scripting
- Good understanding of database design, performance tuning, and data modelling (tools like Power Designer are a plus)
- Exposure to Kafka, Snowflake, Spark, or Databricks is highly desirable (but not essential - training provided)
- Knowledge of the investment banking domain or trade life cycle is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a global team environment
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development setup
