Summary: We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer with expertise in GCP to develop and optimize data products for global retail operations. The role involves taking ownership of data products, designing efficient data pipelines, and collaborating with various teams to align solutions with business strategies. The position is based in Central London and requires a strong technical background along with problem-solving capabilities. This is a 6-month rolling contract with a negotiable rate inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take full ownership of data products, from design through deployment and ongoing support
- Design and implement scalable, efficient data pipelines and data models to meet analytical and business requirements
- Apply DevOps principles to manage CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and cloud infrastructure (GCP)
- Drive continuous improvement, reduce technical debt, and optimize existing processes
- Collaborate with retail and analytics teams to ensure solutions support business strategy
Key Skills:
- Relevant experience in data engineering or related roles
- Strong experience in data modeling and building data pipelines
- Proficiency in SQL and ETL/ELT processes
- Programming experience in Python, Java, or Scala, including automation and API integration
- Familiarity with RDBMS and NoSQL databases, and data formats like Avro and Parquet
- Experience with data processing frameworks: Beam, Spark, Hive, Flink
- Hands-on experience with GCP tools: BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Cloud Functions
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI (DAX) and Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot, Tabular Editor)
- GCP or Azure data engineering certifications are a plus
- Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to work independently
