Summary: The Data Engineer & Analyst role involves supporting the data and reporting environment during a transitional period, requiring independence and the ability to quickly understand existing systems. The ideal candidate will thrive in environments with limited documentation and will be proactive in recommending process improvements. The position is hybrid, with a preference for candidates who can work from the Newcastle office at least three days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor existing data pipelines to ensure reliability and performance
  • Convert a key business reporting spreadsheet into a scalable solution using SQL and Power BI
  • Deliver ad hoc, high-priority reporting and data requests
  • Collaborate on and provide a structured handover to the incoming Data & Insights Manager
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and proactively recommend changes to existing processes

Key Skills:

  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with incomplete documentation and Legacy systems
  • Confident communicating insights and proposing technical or process improvements
  • Quick to learn new systems and business contexts
  • Experience with Azure SQL Databases
  • Familiarity with Azure-hosted environments (including Ubuntu VMs)
  • Working knowledge of Apache Airflow for pipeline orchestration
  • Strong Power BI skills (data modelling, report building, optimisation)
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing and automation
  • Experience integrating with REST and SOAP APIs

We are looking for a highly capable and self-sufficient Data Engineer & Analyst to support our data and reporting environment during a transitional period. This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, can quickly understand existing systems, and is confident making recommendations to improve processes and outputs.

The ideal candidate thrives in environments with limited documentation, can navigate existing data resources effectively, and brings a pragmatic, solution-focused mindset.

Location: Preference will be given to candidates able to work from our Newcastle office at least 3 days per week.
