Summary: The Data Centre Engineering Manager will oversee the management, maintenance, and security of the bank's critical data centre infrastructure. This role involves designing and implementing scalable and resilient data centre solutions while ensuring operational success and mentoring team members. The position requires collaboration with vendors and stakeholders to integrate data centre solutions seamlessly into banking operations. The manager will also lead incident response efforts and manage network projects within the data centre environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day data centre operations and ensure operational continuity.
- Manage financial budgeting for on-premises hosted services and site-level procurement.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentation.
- Oversee capacity management and change management approval at the site level.
- Support incident and problem management alongside the CTO team.
- Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders for seamless integration of data centre solutions.
- Lead incident response efforts and conduct root cause analysis for major incidents.
- Manage and execute network projects, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Validate completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks.
- Assist with monthly reporting on data centre power usage and capacity.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking/Science, Information Technology/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in technology and operations, preferably in financial services or banking.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and compliance standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, CIS, NIST).
- Experience in Data Centre Operations or similar critical operations role.
- Demonstrable process management and development experience in a live operational environment.
- Real-time incident/fault management experience in a business-critical environment.
- Experience managing 3rd party suppliers against stringent SLAs.

Role Purpose
We are seeking a Data Centre Engineer to join our bank's IT team and take a supporting role in managing. maintaining and securing our critical data centre infrastructure. This role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing secure, scalable, and resilient DC infrastructure across the bank's data centres and offices. As an engineer, you will play a pivotal role in actively supporting the bank's DC infrastructure, ensuring operational success, and mentoring other team members.
About the role - what you will be doing in our team
Reporting to the Data Centre Engineering Manager you will be responsible for:
Day-to-day DC Operations
Lead the successful operations of the Clients data centre environments.
Ensure full operational continuity and reporting along with management of the DC Engineers and 3rd Party suppliers/services.
Ensure the Data Centre is visually always kept to a high standard.
Technical Responsibilities
Responsible Financial Budgeting for all on-premises hosted services.
Site level Procurement
Site Risk Management
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to each location and Facilities provider.
Maintain infrastructure asset management and asset lifecycle reports for both DC and infrastructure assets
Maintain all documentation in an audit ready' state
Capacity management including power, floor space and assisting with forecasting loadings.
Change management approval site level responsibility.
Support the CTO team with Incident and problem management.
Assist with hardware replacements, RMA tasks
Managing new and existing business requirements
Responsible for managing the internal cabling (and external carrier fibres brought into the building) to a high standard, with all cabling inventoried.
Encourage cross departmental collaborative working and lead by example
Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues and incidents.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to integrate DC solutions into banking infrastructure and services seamlessly.
Incident and Change Management
Lead incident response efforts for Data Centre related issues, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal business impact, including out of hours.
Conduct root cause analysis for major incidents and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
Plan and oversee DC upgrades and changes, ensuring thorough testing and compliance with change management policies.
Develop SLA's and processes for service requests such as remote hands' service or cabling requests.
Project Management
Manage and execute network projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams and PMO to deliver on time, within scope, and on budget.
Contribute to strategic planning for network infrastructure and provide input on technology investments.
Planned Preventative Maintenance
Validating all PPM's are completed on time, managing any faults or advisories that have been reported are logged and tracked through to completion.
Reporting
Assist with monthly reporting on DC power usage (subject to usage availability), PUE, capacity, and ensuring all information is correct and delivered on time.
About You - what we need you to bring to our team and business
Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking/Science, Information Technology/Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent certifications or experience
Extensive experience in technology and operations, preferably within the financial services or banking industry.
Good understanding of security protocols and compliance standards (eg, PCI-DSS, CIS, NIST).
Experience in a Data Centre Operations or other similar critical operations role.
Strong and demonstrable process management and development experience in a live operational environment.
Extensive Real Time Incident/Fault management experience in a business-critical environment.
Managing 3rd party suppliers to deliver against stringent SLA's.
Financial and Budget Management.
Good understanding of Health and Safety, ISO standards, and compliance, BMS, PMS, fire systems. Knowledge of Data Centre Customer installations, such as racks, HAC, cabling, cross connects, power, testing and customer acceptance.
Attention to detail with high personal standards and the desire to complete tasks on time.
