Job Title: Data Architect

Location: West Yorkshire / hybrid

Duration: 6 months + extensions

What's needed. We're recruiting on behalf of a leading national business to find an experienced Data Architect who can advise and document the standards needed to implement #data as a product# (DAAP). For a data mart to be defined as a product, it needs to have the following characteristics

  • It should be discoverable
  • It should be valuable
  • It should be self explicable
  • It should be addressable
  • It should be interoperable
  • It should be accessible/performant
  • It should be secure
  • It should be trustworthy

We are looking for someone to help us define the technical data architecture and engineering standards needed to make the above statements true for the data products which are built the cloud (GCP, BigQuery, Looker data lake). These standards will include

  • BiqQuery Layout - naming standards, key consistency, suffix standards, data set layering etc
  • Looker Semantic Layer - user view definitions, dimensions grouping, aggregation definitions, hidden join management
  • MetaData and Documentation - Looker and BQ field description standards
  • Schema Design standards - flattened views, deterministic types, order consistency, semantic description, enum constraints etc
  • Partitioning and clustering standards
  • Policy Tags
  • Star Schema Design standards

Our client will also need to understand how to implement these standards as code and how they monitor adherence as their data engineering supplier builds the data products.

The role requires a thought leader who can help guide both internal stakeholders and help drive the behaviours of 3rd party delivery partners. Someone who's been there and done it in terms of migrating an enterprise organisation to a "data as a product" framework.
