Summary: The Data Analyst role at Cefas involves supporting the Epidemiology and Risk Modelling team in delivering scientific evidence for aquatic animal health policy. The position focuses on data analysis, mathematical modelling, and risk assessments to manage epidemiological risks associated with aquatic ecosystems. Candidates will work with various data sources and collaborate with government agencies to provide evidence-based advice. The role is primarily desk-based and requires strong analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct desk-based data analysis, including collection, storage, processing, and interpretation of data for risk assessments and epidemiological studies.
  • Support the development of risk assessment tools and models for aquatic animal disease and non-native species.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Cefas and national/international agencies to obtain necessary data.
  • Effectively communicate and present complex data and advice.
  • Manage data in accordance with government standards.
  • Contribute to official government reports, grant applications, and publications.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in coding with R and/or Python.
  • Broad understanding of epidemiological and/or ecological systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data for practical solutions.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work both in a team and autonomously.
  • Proven scientific writing and communication skills, with contributions to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail, capable of handling multiple projects.
  • A degree in Mathematics or Biological science with relevant components or equivalent experience.
