Summary: The Data Analyst role at Europe PMC involves collaborating with a diverse team to ensure data quality and analyze trends in scientific publishing. The position requires technical skills for manipulating large datasets and a curiosity-driven approach to derive insights that enhance user experience and extend collaborative efforts. The analyst will also engage in outreach and represent Europe PMC at relevant workshops and meetings. This role is integral to supporting innovations in publishing and improving services for users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scope new sources of content and linked metadata, translating opportunities into specifications for technical staff.
- Make recommendations on data management, quality improvements, or development opportunities to the technical team.
- Provide analytics on incoming content and related linked scientific outputs regarding new publishing trends and standards.
- Conduct content-based analysis to inform decisions and for reporting and publishing purposes.
- Analyze web analytics and gather insights on user behavior on the website with the product team.
- Develop dashboards to monitor Open Science trends through integrated data sources.
- Collaborate with EMBL’s Office for Scientific Information Management and Strategy teams to provide data solutions.
- Write reports/papers on the latest activities of the group periodically.
- Outreach to aligned projects and resources in the scholarly communications ecosystem.
Key Skills:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience analyzing large datasets, including producing plots with Python or R.
- Willingness to contribute to pipeline development in line with project standards.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Good understanding of Open Science policies.
- Ability to use collaborative software environments like Git.
- Experience with Data Analysis using PostgreSQL and SQL.
- Experience with linked data, RDF, MongoDB, and Graph databases.
- Experience using open source data analytics tools, such as Matomo.
- Experience working in an open source environment.
