Summary: The Cyber Security Specialist role involves supporting a public sector client in Edinburgh/Glasgow for an initial 12-month contract outside IR35. The specialist will be responsible for assessing cyber threats, adapting security standards for change projects, and maintaining security design assessments for new services. The position requires collaboration within an agile project team to ensure security measures are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be aware of the current cyber threat landscape and industry best practices and standards.
  • Support initial scoping and risk assessment of a change project.
  • Interpret security best practice and accreditation requirements to determine security requirements.
  • Adapt existing cyber security standards and controls to fit specific change projects.
  • Carry out threat modelling and risk assessments.
  • Review high and low level designs drafted by solution architects.
  • Maintain a security design assessment for new services.
  • Utilize security products such as email filtering, AV, Firewalls, WAFs, and MS Defender.
  • Conduct security testing including SAST and DAST.
  • Work with virtualisation platforms and operating systems, including Hyper-V and Windows Server.
  • Manage enterprise systems like email, PKI, AD, GP, SCCM, Azure, and M365.
  • Engage with application platforms such as MS Dynamics and Power Platform.
  • Utilize cloud platforms, particularly Azure.

Key Skills:

  • Security and Risk assessment.
  • In depth understanding of and experience with enterprise scale digital service provision.
  • Demonstrable recent record making security contribution during the development of a new digital service.
  • Ability to work well in an agile project team with internal colleagues and suppliers.
  • Ability to self-start, accept ownership and see through security aspects of project start to finish.
  • Ability to share knowledge and experience with colleagues and effectively hand over to SecOps.
