Summary: The Customs Compliance Manager role in Tamworth is a 12-month fixed-term contract focused on ensuring regulatory customs compliance within a fast-paced freight forwarding environment. The position involves overseeing customs formalities, developing compliance procedures, and managing audits while supporting logistics solutions for major industrial and retail clients. The role requires a strong background in customs compliance and offers a hybrid working arrangement. The successful candidate will report directly to the Customs & Compliance Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all regulatory customs compliance for the freight forwarding division, including import and export customs formalities.
- Maintain compliance with UK customs regulations and HMRC guidance.
- Develop and implement customs compliance procedures in line with international trade agreements.
- Review and audit customs declarations completed by brokers.
- Facilitate and manage external audits conducted by regulatory authorities.
- Assign and verify HS tariff codes for products.
- Conduct quality assurance audits to ensure adherence to procedures.
- Support freight and customs teams with queries related to Dangerous Goods transportation.
- Ensure compliance with VAT and Duty requirements.
- Help maintain customs authorisations for the wider group.
Key Skills:
- 4+ years of experience in customs and/or customs compliance.
- Experience with customs compliance such as AEO, VAT & Duties, IPR, and OPR.
- Familiarity with the CDS system is advantageous.
- Knowledge of INCOTerms and Export Licensing is advantageous.
- Ability to commute to Tamworth on a hybrid basis.
- Willingness to undertake a 12-month fixed-term contract.

My client focuses on providing customs clearance for air freight, sea freight & road freight solutions, which are both cost effective & time sensitive operating as a 3PL and freight forwarding service.
Job Description
As a Customs Compliance Manager (FTC) you will report in to the Customs & Compliance Director on a daily basis. You will be responsible for the following areas for responsibility across the Tamworth West Midlands office:
- Ensuring all regulatory customs compliance is controlled for our freight forwarding division, including import & export customs formalities including tax & duty requirements.
- Ensure full compliance within the UK customs regulations & HMRC guidance for all freight activities - including The Windsor Framework for NI & ROI.
- Develop, implement, maintenance of customs compliance procedures in line with international trade agreement (e.g. Tariffs, post-BREXIT results, HS Tariff Codes, IPR, OPR and Customs Simplified procedures).
- Review, audit and analyse customs declaration completed by our brokers ensuring accurate tariff classification, origin determination and valuation of goods.
- Facilitate and manage any external audits conducted by regulatory authorised.
- Assign and verify HS tariff codes for all products.
- Conduct quality assurance audits to ensure procedures are being adhered to in accordance with requirements.
- Support the freight and customs teams with respect to any queries relating to the transportation of Dangerous Goods for Air, Road & Sea.
- Ensure compliance with VAT & Duty requirements.
- Help maintain customs authorisations such as AEO, CFSP, IP, OPR for the wider group.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have an expansive background in customs compliance within the freight forwarding industry. The ideal Customs Compliance Supervisor will have the following skills and experience:
- 4+ year's experience in customs and/or customs compliance
- Desirable experience of customs compliance such as AEO, Letter of Credit Documentation, VAT & Duties, IPR and/or OPR.
- Experience of CDS system is advantageous.
- Knowledge of INCOTerms & Export Licensing is advantageous
- Commutable to Tamworth on a hybrid basis
- Ability to undertake a 12 month fixed-term contract.
