Summary: The Credit Risk & Portfolio Management Director role involves leading a team to manage a high-risk SME loan portfolio while shaping financial strategies and engaging with senior government stakeholders. The position requires expertise in credit risk and portfolio management, with a focus on innovation in the UK economy. This temporary role is based in Swindon and offers a hybrid working arrangement. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer and contribute to policy discussions and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 10 credit and investment specialists and 8 debt portfolio management experts.
- Oversee credit, investment, arrears, default, and recovery decisions within delegated authority.
- Ensure adherence to responsible lending and debt management policies, aligning with the FCA’s Treating Customers Fairly framework.
- Represent Innovate UK in policy, funding, and risk governance discussions with UKRI, the British Business Bank, and Government stakeholders.
- Provide expert opinion on credit and portfolio management at the Credit Committee and contribute to public/government forums.
Key Skills:
- Expertise in SME lending, investment decisions, and structured/mezzanine finance.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in building and coaching high-performing teams.
- Experience in originating and managing SME loan portfolios and launching new financial products.
- Familiarity with Subsidy Control regulations, Managing Public Money, and fair value accounting (IFRS9).
- Degree-qualified or holding a relevant professional qualification with substantial hands-on experience in credit risk and portfolio management.
