Summary: The role of Creative WebGL Developer involves creating immersive, real-time web experiences for a major media company, focusing on high-impact campaign work rather than product maintenance. This position emphasizes performance, creativity, and the ability to translate ideas into engaging web experiences. The role is a 12-month contract with hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build immersive, real-time WebGL moments for global campaign launches
  • Take ideas from concept to launch: prototype, iterate, ship —without losing the magic
  • Create scroll-driven interactive storytelling that feels smooth, cinematic, and intentional
  • Partner day-to-day with designers, motion artists, and creative technologists

Detailed Description From Employer:

Build web experiences people can’t stop sharing. We’re partnering with a well-known, well-trusted major Media company at the intersection of technology, storytelling, and global brand campaigns —and we’re hiring a Creative WebGL Developer to turn bold concepts into immersive, real-time work on the modern web. This isn’t product maintenance. It’s high-impact, visually led campaign work —the kind that gets seen (and felt) by millions. If you treat the browser like a canvas (not just a container) and you care about craft, performance, and wow-factor , you’ll feel at home here.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build immersive, real-time WebGL moments for global campaign launches
  • Take ideas from concept to launch: prototype, iterate, ship —without losing the magic
  • Create scroll-driven interactive storytelling that feels smooth, cinematic, and intentional
  • Partner day-to-day with designers, motion artists, and creative technologists
  • Make ambitious 3D run beautifully: optimize scenes, assets, and pipelines for desktop + mobile
  • Experiment with animation, shaders, lighting, and real-time rendering to push the work further

Tech you’ll use

  • Next.js (preferred) or Astro for performance-first builds
  • Three.js + React Three Fiber (+ @react-three/drei )
  • GSAP (ScrollTrigger is a strong plus)
  • Blender pipelines (glTF / GLB workflows)

What we’re looking for

  • Strong fundamentals in JavaScript / TypeScript
  • A portfolio showing WebGL / real-time 3D work (campaigns, labs, interactive sites—anything goes)
  • You know how to keep things fast: profiling, optimisation, and performance constraints in the browser
  • You can translate a creative idea into a build: taste + technical execution
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, idea-led environment where quality matters

Nice-to-haves (not deal-breakers)

  • GLSL / shader experience
  • Motion / animation background (or strong animation sensibility)
  • Experimental interactive work—playgrounds, prototypes, side projects
  • Agency / studio experience on campaign-led builds

Why you’ll want this role

  • 12-month contract extendable, 2-3 days hybrid weekly
  • You’ll ship work that’s public, premium, and global —not hidden behind a login
  • You’ll collaborate with people who care about craft as much as delivery
  • You’ll have room to experiment and help shape what modern web storytelling looks like
  • If you’ve ever looked at a campaign site and thought “this could be way cooler” —we should talk.
