Summary: Just for Kids Law (JfKL) seeks an experienced solicitor or barrister for the role of Covid-19 Inquiry Lawyer within their Public Law Team. The position focuses on the Covid-19 Inquiry, particularly concerning the rights and interests of children and young people during the pandemic. The role involves casework, legal research, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure children's rights are represented in the inquiry process. This is a fixed-term contract until December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing high-quality legal advice and representation.
- Meeting with and taking instructions from the JfKL/CRAE team.
- Drafting witness statements, letters, and other legal documents.
- Managing and analyzing complex data and documents.
- Conducting legal research and attending conferences and court hearings.
- Liaising with the Pro Bono Team and reviewing evidence from key witnesses.
- Instructing Counsel on matters related to the Inquiry.
- Performing administrative duties and managing internal processes.
- Ensuring accurate time recording and timely billing.
- Contributing to cross-organizational communications and projects.
- Supporting funding applications and participating in meetings as required.
- Promoting Equality and Diversity principles in all aspects of work.
Key Skills:
- Knowledge of public law and administrative review principles.
- Understanding of the Human Rights Act and UNCRC.
- Experience in Public Inquiries, Children’s Rights, and Human Rights Law.
- Direct client work experience, providing advice and conducting litigation.
- Ability to influence public policy.
- Degree in law or relevant equivalent.
- Legal Practice Course or Bar Vocational Course qualification.
- Practising solicitor or barrister status.
