Summary: The Cost Accountant role at a public sector organization in Edinburgh involves reviewing and developing costing and pricing models to inform decision-making and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Review the costing and pricing of contracts to inform decision-making and establish guidelines.
  • Develop existing costing and pricing models to provide a robust view of return on investment.
  • Meet with budget holders to discuss contract pricing elements.
  • Provide financial challenge and recommendations for efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Support managers in preparing tariff schedules and specialist contract pricing.
  • Collaborate with Finance Manager to establish contract management principles.
  • Develop detailed costing models for effective decision-making.
  • Lead the development of new procedures and controls within the Finance Department.
  • Assist in automating cost models and maintaining reporting systems.
  • Promote direct reporting from finance systems to stakeholders.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required.

Key Skills:

  • HND qualification or degree, ideally with a recognized CCAB qualification.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in process improvement/change in large-scale institutions.
  • Experience with a range of finance systems.
  • Demonstrable cross-functional project delivery experience.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and solution-focused skills.
