Key Responsibilities:

  • Production of UK and overseas annual statutory accounts and liaison with external auditors.
  • Lead the production of the MAG Central Costs Annual Business Plan and monthly MAG UK Management Accounts.
  • Support the Head of Corporate Finance in the production of Global Management Accounts.
  • Line manage Assistant Accountants, providing support, development, and learning opportunities.
  • Maintain and develop financial controls and workflows.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in preparing Charity SORP statutory accounts and leading external statutory audits.
  • Preparation of management accounts and complex business plans.
  • Direct management and development of part-qualified accounts teams.
  • Treasury and cash flow management experience.
  • Significant experience with accounting software/systems.
  • Strong background in complex transaction processing and multi-currency accounting.
  • CCAB Qualified accountant or equivalent professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, CIMA, ACCA) is desirable.

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

Due to an internal promotion, we are now looking for an experienced Corporate Finance Manager to join our dynamic and successful team on a fixed term contract for 12 months. You will be responsible for the production of the UK and overseas annual statutory accounts for MAG and liaison with external auditors. You will be the lead in the production of the MAG Central Costs Annual Business Plan and monthly MAG UK Management Accounts as well as supporting the Head of Corporate Finance in the production of the Global Management Accounts and the execution of Corporate Finance team responsibilities. This role will line manage the Assistant Accountants including support, development, and learning opportunities.

About you:

This role requires a strong technical Accountant with the ability to solve complex problems and to maintain and develop fit for purpose financial controls and workflows. You will need strong organisation, co-ordination and planning skills, ability to work at pace and with a range of competing demands whilst maintaining excellent judgement and prioritising work to meet deadlines. MAG is looking for an individual who is self-motivated and flexible with an enthusiastic approach to work and ability to work with a high degree of autonomy with the following experience, skills and knowledge;

  • Proven experience of the preparation of Charity SORP statutory accounts and leading on external statutory audits
  • Preparation of management accounts and complex business plans
  • Direct management, motivation and development of part-qualified accounts teams
  • Treasury and Cashflow Management
  • Significant experience in the use of Accounting software/systems
  • Strong background in a complex transaction processing function
  • Accounting in a multi-currency environment including analysis of foreign exchange gains and losses
  • CCAB Qualified accountant or international equivalent professional accounting qualification, e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA is desirable.
