Summary: The Core Network Engineer role focuses on supporting a large-scale MPLS L2/L3 VPN migration project within a telecommunications and service provider environment. The engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of MPLS networks, ensuring minimal downtime during migrations. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to industry best practices. Weekend work is required, with time off in lieu during the week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support MPLS L2/L3 VPN migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption.
  • Implement, configure, and optimise MPLS network infrastructure within a service provider environment.
  • Troubleshoot complex routing and switching issues to maintain network stability and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute migration plans, including testing, validation, and deployment.
  • Produce and maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices and security standards.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in core network engineering within a telecommunications/service provider environment.
  • Strong expertise in MPLS networking, including L2/L3 VPNs and traffic engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, and other service provider routing protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with network migrations, including planning, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with QoS, network automation (Python, Ansible), and SDN/NFV concepts is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
