Summary: The role of Technical Architect involves working within a multidisciplinary product team to guide technology decisions and support a data transformation programme for a major government department. The position requires active SC clearance and entails a hybrid working arrangement, with two days per week onsite in either Bristol or London. The successful candidate will ensure service quality, provide mentorship, and drive collaboration across government initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide technology decisions and design systems within a multidisciplinary product team.
  • Support delivery across GDS initiatives and ensure service quality.
  • Provide mentorship and drive cross-government collaboration.

Key Skills:

  • Experience working with data products, ideally with an interest in open data.
  • Familiarity with CKAN or similar data management platforms.
  • Awareness of recent AI developments and their impact on data services.
  • Deep expertise in Linux and cloud services (AWS preferred).
  • Proficient in Python; Ruby desirable.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure technologies: databases, web servers, CDNs, message queues, load balancers.
  • Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with containers (Kubernetes, ECS) or serverless (AWS Lambda).
  • Supporting large-scale production services.
  • Strong Git and CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
  • Solid understanding of security principles.
  • Proven technical leadership experience: leading projects, guiding teams, and mentoring colleagues.

We are partnering with a major government department in their search for an experienced Technical Architect to support the data transformation programme.
